There are many different types of drawer runners/slides/glides/rails for many different applications, and this can be confusing when trying to replace or renew for an existing drawer box. However, identifying a few key features can simplify the selection process and narrow down to the correct range.

Here are a few brief pointers to the most common runners that customers regularly require - either to replace or to use for new units.

Narrow metal ball bearing runners Ikea/old MFI type lightweight metal ball bearing narrow runners fitting into a drawer box that’s been grooved out (most common to break if they are pulled too far!): 17mm Goove Ball Bearing Runners (10 kg)
Roller runners White roller runners (with nylon wheels) that are mounted at the bottom of the drawer box (only partial extension) - light to medium duty, made from steel. (Other finishes are available): Roller Drawer Runners (17-20 kg)
Soft closing runners these have become much more popular in the last few years- these will automatically draw the runner to closed position softly without the need to push all the way. These will come in various forms: Under-mounted  (mostly concealed fitting under the drawer box) Recommended: Grass Dynapro, Soft Close (40 kg) Budget range: Hafele Matrix, Soft Close (30 kg) Side-mounted Recommended: Accuride 3832ec Easy Close (43-45 kg) Budget range: Ball Bearing, Soft Close (32-35 kg)
Touch release or push to open runners Once closed, they just need a gentle push to release and start to open out. Under-mounted: Grass Dynapro Tipmatic, Push-to-open (40kg) Side-mounted: Accuride 3832tr Touch Release (42-45 kg)
Ball bearing full extension steel runners These are for heavier drawer boxes,and will start at 45kg capacity per pair, they are typically for understair/underbed drawers, but can be used in any room as long as the drawer sides are high enough: Accuride 3832 (45-50 kg)
